Facebook. Twitter. YouTube.  While some may say that Web 2.0 and social networking are the best ways to stay connected, they can also cause a lifetime of regret.

My mom and I spent Christmas this year in a Cold War-style standoff. She said something along the lines of, “if someone broke into my house I would shoot and kill them,” and I replied with something to the tune of, “well you’re a sociopath.”

On Feb. 18, you published an article entitled “If your vagina could talk, what would it say?” It discussed the most recent production of “The Vagina Monologues” but unfortunately was riddled with mistakes and was an insult to those of us who take the show and its purpose so seriously.

If there is one channel on TV that I cannot seem to skip over fast enough, it is MTV. This disgrace of a television network used to represent, in my opinion, one of the greatest ideas of the late 20th century.

One of the great things that comes with being a student at C of C is the opportunity to learn more about almost any subject conceivable.  Whether it is in the classroom or just from life experience, few will argue that one’s time in college is not a constant learning experience.

Even though the United States has built its reputation as a powerhouse, even the most powerful countries experience hardship.  In an attempt to revive the economy, the U.S. government has implemented Keynesian economics, which basically pumps money into the system to stimulate the market.

The most irritating thing about the so-called National Tea Party is its completely unwitting self-contradiction. This has nothing to do with whether you are liberal or conservative, left-wing or right-wing;

Channing Tatum, Amanda Seyfried and local autistic 7-year-old Braeden Reed charmed audiences in “Dear John,” but Charleston proved to steal the show.

Yes, the College of Charleston is a predominantly Caucasian, Southern college. Walking around campus, the majority of students I pass on a regular basis are Caucasian and, quite frankly, female.

Due to the recent anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision to legalize abortion, I have had several discussions with people about their own views on the matter.

I’ll admit it. After I turned 18, and Election Day was upon me, I felt grown up and ready to contribute to choose who runs our government. Just before I entered my assigned polling place on Election Day, I did what every American does: I called my dad and asked, “Who am I voting for?”

The now-annual Indulge “Sex Issue” inevitably brings about controversy every year.  The most commonly asked questions are, “Why do we have a sex issue?” and “What message is the sex issue trying to get across?” Both are valid questions and deserve a straightforward answer.

This past MLK weekend students gathered for a Unity Fair for a chance to observe the diversity at the College and appreciate different cultures.

Google.com is a multi-billion dollar corporation that sprung out of nowhere and became both a tightly packaged conglomeration technology and a capillary-like network lighting the international stage. There are versions of Google in German, Estonian and Swahili among other internationally spoken languages, and there’s even a language tool for all the “pirates” in the world.

Many students have visited our campus and have been told about the gym and full-sized pool in the Stern Center.  I remember that distinctly from my tour. I also remember visiting Stern for the first time as a freshman and finding a few treadmills and a sad excuse for a free weight gym.

Americans' outpouring of aid to Haiti is large, but how long will it last?

Most college students aren’t thinking about marriage. Or they are but for the “future,” you know, “after college.” I’m not one of those students. I have been dating my fiancé since my junior year of high school. I didn’t see marriage in my near future at the time, but when he asked me last June, I couldn’t imagine saying no. Talking to others both older and my age about my engagement causes me to wonder why young marriage is so looked down upon.

When the College of Charleston Foundation announced plans to purchase the McLeod Plantation in September 2009, the debate on the student side was limited at best.  After it was released that the transaction would be done with private funds, the vast majority of students ranged from indifferent to excited about the acquisition, which would not increase their tuition a cent but would double the College’s current campus size.

Blue and teal streaks dance across a timeless white space that everyone seems to partake in and enjoy. This is not a classic tie-dyed T-shirt or a masterpiece by Monet, but nevertheless, it is both an aesthetic and a permanent problem facing all of us as C of C students.

John Aiello answers the objections raised by Mwekali and Edmonds in the last issue of the GSO against my article titled "Religion Classes Biased."

As most of the American population knows, next Thursday, Nov. 26, is what is commonly referred to as “Thanksgiving” in popular culture.  For most College of Charleston students, this will consist of visiting family, watching football, drinking beer and overall having a wonderful time celebrating the fact that the semester is almost over.

The events that transpired at the Vue in West Ashley on Halloween night have come under scrutiny by disappointed attendees.  The criticisms, and justification for those criticisms, go beyond what would be expected when nearly 1,000 people attend a concert.

On Aug. 27 of this year I learned I’d been left homeless.  Did I hear that day that my house had burned down?  No.  The economic downturn cost me my job resulting in my receiving an eviction notice for not paying my rent?  No.

That day the Post and Courier callously informed me of my homelessness in an article on homeless children.  Staffer Bill Henley wrote, “Homeless children are counted... as those who qualify for assistance as either homeless, displaced or in substandard housing.”

The recent war of words between the White House and FOX News is troubling and every American should be alarmed by it.
