A 20-year-old C of C student and an 18-year-old C of C student were arrested the morning of Feb. 27 in connection with a burglary and armed robbery hours after an incident at an Ashley Crossing Lane apartment in West Ashley, according to a City of Charleston Police Department news release.
The victim of the robbery told police he received a phone call at about 1 a.m. from a female acquaintance claiming she was having mechanical problems with her car. He went into the garage and opened the garage door, and three men forced their way into the garage, according to the release. The men then forced the victim back into the apartment at gunpoint.
The suspects then tied up the victim and took electronic equipment, jewelry and his wallet. The victim then freed himself, notified the police and provided them with information about the incident and the suspects, according to the release.
At about 5:30 a.m. police observed a vehicle with two men matching the description of the suspects. Officers detained them and determined that they were involved in the incident. After further investigation, officers determined the other two involved in the incident, according to the release.
The 20-year-old C of C student was charged with armed robbery, burglary of the first degree, kidnapping and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. The 18-year-old student was charged with accessory after the fact. The stolen items have been recovered and the investigation continues.
“Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, the College of Charleston is restricted from releasing information concerning the two students. I can tell you that the College is moving as quickly as possible to process these cases through our campus conduct system,” said Mike Robertson, C of C Senior Director of Media Relations.
