KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The College of Charleston men’s swimming and diving finished third at the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association championships, finishing behind Davidson, while the women’s team earned a seventh place finish out of 12 teams with 196 points.
Senior Randy Buchanan earned his second consecutive CCSA Men’s Outstanding Swimmer award while C of C’s Mike Diamond earned Co-Men’s Diving Coach of the Year honors for the second straight season. As a team, the Cougars men’s program scored 752 points and finished third behind Davidson’s 907 points and Gardner-Webb’s 758.
Over the course of the meet, Buchanan posted one of the most impressive individual performances of his career as he earned Gold in the 200-yard individual medley (1:47.47), 100-yard breaststroke (54.48) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.01). His times in the first two of those events broke his own CCSA records.
With three NCAA “B” cuts, Buchanan will now await word on his qualification status for the NCAA Championships.
