Have your picture taken with Santa Claus between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. while listening to holiday music played by the Jazz Ensemble. The ceremony begins at 5 p.m. and includes a performance by the children of the Miles Early Childhood Development Center and a sing-along with the College of Charleston Concert and Gospel Choirs.
The Sottile tree, the first electrically lighted outdoor holiday tree in Charleston, will be lit for the 43rd time.
The tree was first decorated with over sized lights in 1921 and was lit for the next 20 years, stopping during the blackout imposed on the country following the bombing of Pearl Harbor. In 1986, the grandchildren of J.C. and Alberta Sottile Long turned the lights on once again and they have been lit in a ceremony every year since.
