MESSAGE 1 / 4
Hi. I was wanting to know whatever happened to the four students that had taken baseball bats down to the Battery and had broken out the windows of all the cars, um, along the Battery because the, uh of the preaching at the univ-- or at the College about the, um, ruthless capitalists or the fact that a year ago, on Black Friday, the day after Thanksgiving, one of the biggest shopping days of the year, the College of Charleston students had taken the super glue and had, um, locked all the doors for the the shops of the downtown section on the busiest days of the year and some of the owners had to go ahead and knock out their front windows which would be, um, a loss to them but not as lo -- as great a loss as the um, the, um, the creating of new doors and in their for their businesses and then, um, the fact that now on some of the churches around it -- there that there is, um, a lot of graffiti on the walls of the church walls by the one by Grace Episcopal Church somebody wrote, um “Who,” um, “gives you the right to judge?” Well, the idea is not that “we people” have the right to judge but that God does and God would judge that vandalism on other people’s property probably is not a [TELEPHONE NOISE] a good idea.
MESSAGE 2 / 4
Then Cleve Jones came to the campus, which the students paid for, which is kind of ironic because that was student fees and and some of the people are not gay and they don’t believe that, um, gays have a place in the community as a whole in the civil society because all civilizations that marked their demise it’s because of gays and homosexuality behavior. If you look at Sodom and Gomorrah, if you look at Rome, if you look at any civilization that has been through decadence or has self destructed it’s because of gay -- gays um, and promiscuity and decadence along those lines of immorality. So, my question is then, he came to campus and everybody had to pay for that - that’s interesting enough - and then all of a sudden look there’s a gay parade that that they want to enact, no less in North Charleston because the acceptance of a counterculture because of their last arts festival, um, over the holidays was marked by, um, a defiance against Americanism or traditional Americanism. It’s kind of a counterculture, which is kind of like anarchy, is it not against American people in general because of that fact that they want to take over something that doesn’t belong to them, that they want to justify the taking of something that isn’t theirs, is that not wrong?
MESSAGE 3 / 4
And if there’s a conspiracy to incite violence or belligerence or rebellion or revolt, then isn’t that worthy, uh, of a news article that talks about why it is that there is such a thing and why it is happening on the College of Charleston campus so readily and why it is that it marks kind of like what was in Chicago Tribune, I believe it was April the 21st of 1934, when there was a cartoon that said, “Let’s give away the everything that America has worked so hard for and that whose people have worked and let’s give it all away so that we can harm them, so that we can punish them, so that we can do them harm.” Isn’t that kind of what this is? Isn’t that that um where on the cartoon it says, um “Oh, let’s get some communist pinkie from Harvard or, um, um, some other large school, Ivy League school, to give it all away.” Well, my godmother, um, called me on Valentine’s Day and said that she no longer, even though she worked and her husband worked their whole lives for GM, they no longer have any stock, it was taken away from them, they no longer have any retirement, it was taken away from them, and even though that they worked their entire lives, they don’t have any health care benefits, it was taken away from them. By the president?
MESSAGE 4 / 4
As staff on campus, I can see that there’s a belligerence of defiance, um, anti-everything that’s American, kind of rebelliousness among the students and I can’t understand why, because I’m older, I lived through the sixties and seventies when I saw the same thing. Where our white church was bombed with a molotov cocktail from the African American part of East St. Louis and totally destroyed. Where, when we moved to New Jersey, I went to the School of the Arts in Philadelphia and when I would come out, there would be gangs with mo -- with machetes -- carrying knives down the streets threatening people that would walk the streets so we had to have close guards. And then, in addition to that, then, um, in Pennsauken, New Jersey, a little girl was of mine, in my neighborhood, because I, I was at one time free to ride my bicycle and go to the neighborhood park, but not after the incident where one of my neighbor girls was sliced and diced up on a teeter totter in the park. That was the defiance of the seventies. It was an uprising of black empowerment. It was of black, um, power. Of black planet. And black, um, panthers. And they not only intimidated people at the polls like they did this last election in Philadelphia, but in other ways.
Comments
She is ridiculous. I won't forget her voice and if I ever find out who she is i'll inform her of her ignorance.
How could anyone be so naive as to believe this message was anything other than a prank designed to make certain conservatives look completely irrational? As irrational as conservatives often are, they are nowhere near as incoherent as this contrived imitation of one would indicate. Sounds far more like a liberal's poor imitation of certain conservatives than any real conservative and certainly no conservative on the staff at the College. Like, um, get real.
if she was a faculty member...it would be interesting to see who hired the idiot...she has THE worst speech structure that I have heard in a long time...I am pretty sure that all of her remarks were only stated to oppress the minority population...how hard would it be to trace a call, or call the person back who left the voicemail?
She almost calls it the university and then corrects herself. She talks about random acts attributing them to "College of Charleston students". That sounds like someone from the community with a bone to pick, not a staff member. A staff member would just say "students" and wouldn't call almost call it "university". She wouldn't keep calling it "the College of Charleston," but would refer to it as "the College". If she is a staff member then she is someone who hasn't been around long or doesn't spend much time on campus.
I know this woman. I read the transcript and its the same conversation she had with me at work about a month ago. I just nodded politely while she talked her gobbledy-gook. For the record, she is not employed by CofC. Why, oh why are the crazies drawn to me?
soft-spoken female redneck? narrow, ignorant viewpoint, poorly expressed & illogical. maybe she should take a few college courses. CofC is not exactly a radical campus. Antoinette McNichol
I hope they figure out who this is... that bitch deserves to be fired.
So the gays have ruined all societies? No, it has nothing to do with corruption, money, patriarchy, war, or anything of that sort. It's all about the gays... Please, lady, quit spewing your homophobic ideals ono us.
And also, school funds go to many different things that not everyone agrees with. I'm not atheist, but the Atheist-Humanist group here has my blessings. I'm not a democrat but that doesn't mean the student organization cannot sponsor events.
And if she had a chance to meet Cleve Jones, she would not have the indecency to bring him into her argument. He is a kind man who travels across the US to speak of HIV/AIDS prevention. He's not trying to convert everyone!
She went to Art School in the 70's and turned out like that?
I'm working on it.
I don't think it was a professor. If so, I think she would have said faculty instead of staff to further emphasize her position.
agreed
The worst thing that we can do is distribute this woman's comments. Sending out this message only gives her free advertising and publicity. If you disagree with this person, then do not spread this around. It only helps her get her message across to more people.
While I see your argument, I also tend to disagree.
It happens far too often that people ignore offensive comments. How many times have you been at a party or event and hear someone make a racist or homophobic comment only to say nothing out of fear of confrontation. I know that I am guilty of this far more than I would like to admit. Those statements (and the people who speak them) must be challenged openly and directly, or else they will continue when people think no one's listening.
I disagree. The worst thing we can do is ignore it and allow it to be swept under the rug. The GSO can't publicly comment on her absolute absurdity, but the rest of us can.
Also, most of the professors refer to themselves as "faculty." Staff could put her in any department, office, cleaning, food prep, etc. I think this makes it easier for someone radical and racist to slip through the cracks.. if she is really an employee of the college in the first place, which I'm not entirely convinced of.
This is a smart professor. At least one professor is not preaching Utopian BS.

Sounds to me like she must be in the history department, or at least affiliated, because she was able to name the April 21st 1934 cartoon (even though she didn't *exactly* quote it) AND the newspaper it came from.
I am familiar with that cartoon only because I remember my high school history teacher showing us a slide of it in class right before we started talking about WWII. Naturally, my teacher was a baby-boomer. This woman, I daresay, is probably in her early 50's.
I am extremely interested in finding out who this woman is.
Actually, that cartoon, while seemingly esoteric, made the rounds recently on right-wing/tea-bagger blogs as a critique against Obama and the Stimulus bill. A Google search for Chicago Tribune 1934 suggests you add the word cartoon.
Here's a link to the comic: http://twitpic.com/tzkse
Her reference to it is a fairly strong indication that she is a follower of that movement.
Interesting observation. I think it is safe to say that she probably isn't in the English department, and definitley not Philosophy. Her thoughts are too scrambled to have a career in those fields. Math seems unlikely. I didn't think it was possible to have a Conservative on the campus at CofC! Now that is radical!
I think it's also safe to say she's not in the PoliSci department. More than likely she's not a professor at all, but someone in an administrative office (receptionist, or something).
This person needs either psychiatric help or an Oscar
*golf clap*
Disturbing...
I hope she isn't a public speaking prof.
HMMMM I think this woman has multiple issues, and may want to see her doc about meds. However, we still have the right to exercise freedom of speech...and boy, does she ever. I'm just not clear on her point, most likely because she was not.
This is the entire message- no name, affiliation or contact info left
What's the return number on the message? Are you guys working on a follow up?
communist pinky from harvard???? wtf?
Well, I mean, obviously. Um. We don't um. Want smart people. Um. Leading our country. Or um. Teaching our. Um. Kids.
When did Sarah Palin start working at CofC?
hahaha.
lolz.
Anybody recognize her voice?
