Women’s soccer beats Appalachian

College of Charleston women’s soccer continued its quest to stay on top of the Southern Conference as it traveled to Appalachian State on Sunday.
The Cougars (10-4-1, 6-1 SoCon) most recently defeated Western Carolina with a 1-0 victory in Cullowhee, N.C. on Oct. 16. Senior Julie Romanik scored in the 56th minute on a penalty kick to give Charleston its third straight shutout.
No one has slipped one past the tandem of C of C goalkeepers, senior Sarah Wiggers and freshman Katie Tate since Oct. 4. Wiggers made three saves over 90 minutes on Friday to keep the streak alive.
Appalachian State (5-7-3, 2-3-2 SoCon) hosts its final regular-season game of the 2009 season and will honor its six seniors before the game. The Mountaineers battled The Citadel for 110 minutes in Boone on Friday evening before ending in a 0-0 draw. Appalachian State has played three overtime games in the last month, with two ending in ties.
Those unable to travel with the Cougars can still keep up with the action on live stats on Appalachian State’s Web site.
