Two students were arrested on a bus bringing students home from the CAB-sponsored cosmic bowling Jan. 29, according to the police report.
On one of the shuttle buses, a 22-year-old sophomore was accused of assault and battery on the bus driver, and a 22-year-old senior was accused of public drunkenness, according to the incident report.
Police say the bus was carrying about 30 C of C students. The sophomore appeared intoxicated, and police say they later found a flask with liquor on him. The student was seated behind the bus driver, and the bus stopped at a stop sign. Then, according to the report, the student reached around, grabbed the bus driver and proceeded to choke her around the neck.
The bus was still in motion, and the driver shifted the bus into neutral, slowing it to a stop. Other students also attempted to stop the assault. The bus driver then called the police, according to the report. Police say they arrested the student for assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, due to endangering the safety of the 30 occupants on board.
The bus driver went to MUSC for medical attention. The student says he did not commit the act in the report, and police say the incident is still under investigation. The College is currently in the process of handling the matter.
While police were handling the incident, they say another student on the bus caused a disturbance. The senior student was aggravating other students on the bus, according to the report. The police officer says he smelled alcohol on the student, and his eyes were bloodshot and watery.
According to the report, when the officers attempted to calm down the senior, he refused and got more upset and refused to cooperate. The student was then arrested. This incident is still under investigation as well.
