Accounting scholarships available in South Carolina
The South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants is currently accepting applications through June 1 for its 2010-2011 scholarship program.
Last year, 18 students representing nine colleges and universities received $19,000 from SCACPA’s Educational Fund.
Qualifications for the scholarship include South Carolina residency, status as a rising junior or senior majoring in accounting at a South Carolina college or university, GPA of no less than 3.25 overall on a 4.0 scale and a GPA in accounting no less than 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
Recipients are chosen based on an essay, resume, financial need (including assistance already received) and letters of recommendation.

Student art exhibit at the College
On April 16 the Academic Advising and Planning Center at the College will host the third student art exhibit, “Art Matters.”
The reception will be held on the second floor of the Lightsey Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and refreshments will be provided. Music will be mixed by CMNDer of Electric Friends.

Rockstock 2010 comes to C of C
The Public Relations Student Society of America, College of Charleston chapter, will be hosting its annual Rockstock on April 15.
The show will be held at the Music Farm at 8 p.m. and acts include After August, Plainfield Project, Gaslight Street and DJ Tantrum.
Students can purchase the $5 tickets before the show at the Cougar Mall, or at the Farm the day of the show.

Advice for graduates in new book
“Generation Change: 150 Ways We Can Change Ourselves, Our Country, and Our World” By Jayan Kalathil and Melissa Bolton-Klinger show recent graduates how they can help change and make a difference in the world.
The authors want to show students how to help change ideas and policies in their country. They offer 150 recommendations, from self-improvement tips to larger global issues, that can change one’s life, the country or the world.
“Generation Change” includes advice and Web sites to help, and is a source of ideas for those looking for a little inspiration and direction on how to get involved. The authors are both marketing and communications professionals.

Charleston Student Advocates for the Arts hosts second annual Advocacy Day
The Charleston Student Advocates for the Arts (CSAA), comprised of both undergraduate and graduate C of C students, will host its second annual Arts Advocacy Day on April 17 at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The event is free and open to the public, and refreshments will be provided.
The speakers will focus on the South Carolina Arts Commission’s budget, an explanation of the budgeting process in South Carolina and the importance of advocating for the arts during times of crisis and security.
