When does graffiti surpass common scribblings and scrawlings to become art? Eye Level Art begs the question with its latest installation, Fused: A Showcase of Graffiti in Fine Art.
The exhibition at 103 Spring St. is free to the public and features the works of three talented painters, each with a unique style but common passion for the medium of graffiti. Chip7 is a New Jersey native, living and working in Virginia. His original style has developed over many years, at home and abroad. He spent half a year working and painting in Bangkok before returning to the United States. His works are often as intricate as they are colorful and have attracted galleries from New York to Los Angeles.
El Kamino is an artist from Virginia whose method as of late is unconventional compared to the majority of his contemporaries: a brush. His central subjects are wildlife, stylized and imagined in uncommon colors. Scott Parsons is a DC native, living in Charleston for the last ten years. Some of his fanciful work can be seen on the wall of Mellow Mushroom’s patio.
Fused is open through May 10.
