The College of Charleston's Bookstore at 160 Calhoun St. will be closed beginning Tuesday as Barnes & Noble moves into the space. Barnes & Noble College Booksellers was awarded the management contract for the space late last year.
The management change, first reported here on CisternYard in November, will keep the store closed until Monday, Feb. 8. The management contract officially takes effect Feb. 4.
Jan Brewton, the College's director of business and auxiliary services explained in a December statement the changes in store for the student body.
"Following the renovations, the heart of the bookstore will house a large and comfortable seating area with overstuffed lounge chairs and tables where students and shoppers can pass the time reading, studying, or relaxing. An expanded general reading department will carry an extensive selection of periodicals, best sellers, and feature titles that reflect the breadth and depth of scholarship of the College of Charleston. There will also be a special section designed to showcase our faculty authors along with books that mirror the interests of our local community.
"Our newly configured store will host events throughout the year including author signings, poetry readings, book club meetings, children’s reading hours, and book discussion groups. Additionally, Barnes & Noble will launch a new bookstore website, customized for the College of Charleston."
The Bookstore reopens Monday, Feb. 8 at 8:00 a.m. More coverage of the changes can be found in the George Street Observer this Thursday.
