Prog-rock powerhouse, Circa Survive, accompanied by the “atmospheric, introspective indie rock group” Foxing and post-hardcore band Hail The Sun, will be lighting up the Charleston Music Farm on Monday, April 16th, stopping down south for “The Amulet Tour.”
Circa Survive is by no means new to the scene. The Philly-based band are now on their sixth album, The Amulet, which deviates from their origin in the best way. Formerly of post-hardcore band Saosin, frontman Anthony Green’s vocals are as dynamic as ever, wailing and cooing through each track. While some may think the album is the band restrained, as their previous works could be described as much more “wild prog-rock,” I believe it to be a more mature take. After 15 years, you can’t expect musicians to use the same tried and true writing process as when they were kids. Circa Survive have successfully navigated the musical evolution cycle, while still making their fans happy through subtle changes and references to early styles. They are definitely in it for the long haul.
The decision to join Foxing and Hail The Sun on tour works in Circa’s favor. All three bands have very distinctive sounds, with Hail The Sun considered chaotic and Foxing as just downright emo, so this tour is guaranteed to be a rollercoaster of sound and sentiment each night. For fans of The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, The Fall of Troy, and of course Saosin, Circa Survive’s “The Amulet Tour” is certainly not one to miss.
