On April 1, the real joke was on College of Charleston basketball fans.
The College Today, the blog and magazine run by the Division of Marketing and Communications at the College of Charleston, released a “Breaking News” report in regards to an unprecedented ruling concerning a controversial play in the recent College of Charleston vs. Auburn University basketball game.
The report went on to say that basketball officials were investigating what appeared to be a foul against CofCs Grant Riller as he was attempting a 3 point shot in the final seconds of the game.
The report stated that after extensive review basketball officials declared that Riller was in fact fouled on the shot. Since that shot could have tied the two teams and put the game in overtime Riller was given the opportunity to shoot 3 more free throw shots, and if he made all three the game would be ruled a tie and the two teams would travel back to San Diego to play an overtime game.
Footage was shown of Riller in Cougar Arena taking these three shots and making every one.
This would have been a moment of pure excitement for the College of Charleston’s basketball fan had the report footage not flipped to Clyde the Cougar waking up from a dream.
