Women’s Basketball Stumbles at Home Against Elon

The Cougars entered Friday night’s game against the Elon Phoenix on a rough stretch, losing their last eight in a row.  Unfortunately, the College could not pull out the win, losing 77-55 at TD Arena.

The College of Charleston started out strong, taking a 4-0 lead in the early knockings of the first quarter, but the Phoenix clawed their way back and finished the first period with a 24-18 lead.

In the second quarter, the College of Charleston created many good looks for themselves, but failed to convert easy baskets.  That, coupled with six turnovers, led to Elon heading into the locker room up 11.

Following the break, it was more of the same from Elon.  Ra’Shika White of Elon started to use every inch of her 6’4 frame and began to dominate the paint.  The College of Charleston failed to have an answer for her and they ended up conceding 25 points in the quarter.

Despite the tough loss, Cailin Dorsey and Deja Ford played well, scoring nine and 12 points respectively.

Friday night, the Cougars were out-rebounded 47-41, committed 19 turnovers and shot 31% compared to Elon’s 46%. With this loss, the College of Charleston’s women’s basketball team has dropped to 1-10 in the conference and 5-17 overall.

The team will remain at TD Arena to finish out the two-game home stretch against Drexel at 1:00 PM on Sunday the 4th.
