Get ready to use your bartering skills, CofC students, because it is time for the annual Bike Auction hosted by our lovely Student Government Association. The auction will take place in front of the Stern Center on George Street on Oct. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
But, do not mistake this bike auction for any ole’ auction. SGA has partnered with the Colleges’ Department of Public Safety and will auction off bikes where the campus officers have confiscated, abandoned or illegally placed bikes. After confiscation, the bikes are put into what is known as “the cage” (yes, sounds pretty intense) and after 90 days if no one has claimed the bike, it is put up for sale at the annual SGA Bike Auction.
SGA President, Ryan Spraker, has attended and managed the auction for three years now and said that the auctions are always, “incredibly successful.” President Spraker also expressed how beneficial this auction is to students, since Charleston is already bike-friendly and biking is one of the most popular ways to get around the Holy City. Plus, who wants to suffer the wrath of those 15-minute walks to campus some of us have to make? And, not to mention the permanent blister scars we all have from walking…
With nearly 200 bikes and a wide range of various options, the bikes are sold at a discounted price and as is. Cash only, folks! Forget the hassle of walking everywhere and do not miss this opportunity to bargain for your potential new bike.
