The holidays are here, right around the corner. Thanksgiving and Hanukkah grace us this week and soon after is Christmas and New Years. The question is, though, what will you be wearing during these celebrations? Will you be decked out in something classy and decedent? Or will you be sporting a cheesy holiday sweater that only your Grandma would really appreciate?
That’s the thing about the holiday season, you can do both. Depending on the events or gatherings you’ll be attending this year, you can dress it up or be the epitome of cheese. Here is my guide to embracing the age-old holiday garb:
- If you’re not that big into dressing up for the holidays, either embrace the traditional red and green color scheme or go for metallic and sparkles. Metallics and sparkles are a great way to embody the holiday spirit without being overly spirited; These can also be quite subdued to meet your style as well.
- If you’re full of holiday cheer and spirit, I suggest going for the holiday sweaters during this season. Remember: the uglier, the better. Take a few notes from your spirited relatives such as your Grandma or crazy Aunt Louise. Not only are these sweaters filled with holiday spirit but they’re an excellent source of conversation at any event you’re going to.
- A middle ground approach can be applied to holiday garb. If you’re feeling that approach, I’d say go for the sparkles that aren’t as subdued and holiday sweaters that aren’t horrendously spirited. I’ve found many that fit this in the past from Old Navy.
However, these approaches mainly include the time period between Thanksgiving and Christmas. What do you do for New Years as you’re pining for that New Year’s kiss at the stroke of midnight, or having a merry time celebrating the new year and fresh start?
- If you’re pining for that New Year’s kiss or attending a classy New Year’s event, I’d say go for the cocktail dress. A little black dress is always in style, but something metallic and sparkly would do the trick as well. The New Year is a magical time, so anything that glitters embodies the magic perfectly. If you’re doing the latter and just enjoying a good time with your friends to roll in the New Year, go casual. Pair some black leggings, boots, and a sparkly tunic or big comfy sweater. It’s casual, comfortable and will let you be yourself.
Whatever you do this holiday season is your choice, dress to the nines and embody your holiday spirit. But if your spirit is lacking, don’t let that stop you from looking just as fabulous. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, metallics and sparkles are the way to go. You’ll stand out, sparkle and look fabulous.
