Charleston hosted Southern Ground Music and Food Festival on Oct. 19 and 20 for the third consecutive year at Blackbaud Stadium on Daniel Island. The two day festival is the brainchild of foodie and musician Zac Brown from The Zac Brown Band, bringing together his passions for food and music in the South. More than twenty musical guests and fourteen food vendors made the festival a dynamic success.
Musical guests included artists such as the indie band Fitz and the Tantrums as well as country singer Kacey Musgraves. The Zac Brown Band personally picked the line up, and The Zac Brown Band closed on both days during the festival. On Saturday, the Zac Brown Band closed with special sit-in performances by John Bell and Clare Bowen. On Sunday, the popular country band closed with Jason Mraz and Kenny Rogers.
Attendees enjoyed delicious food from fourteen area vendors, including Sticky Fingers, Sesame Burgers and Beer and even The Zac Brown Band’s personal chef on the road, Cookie. Cookie sold featured recipes that included Rusty’s Jambalaya and Chocolate Peanut Butter Biscuit Pudding.
The festival’s successful 2011 debut inspired Brown to expand to Nashville last year, so those who missed it still have another chance to fuel up with good food and happy vibes.
