College of Charleston President George Benson announced Aug. 1 that he will step down from his position as president of the College of Charleston and return to the classroom next June. In a statement, Benson said he will join the faculty as a tenured professor in the School of Business beginning June 30, 2014.
Benson spent the first 16 years of his academic career in the classroom, and “looks forward to returning” according to the statement. He said his announcement came now so that “the Board has ample time to find the next leader of this historic institution.”
Benson has served as the College’s president since 2007. Along with its official announcement, the College published a substantial document outlining his major accomplishments.
