The College is abuzz in preparation for this year’s Homecoming celebration, themed “New Fight, Same Bite.” This year’s theme expresses that though big changes are taking place on campus, such as the addition of new basketball Coaches Wojcik and Adair.
Jill Caldwell, Assistant Director of Student Life, explains that, “Our bite is still strong and both teams have been working really hard to show that this season. We want to welcome both coaches to CofC and show them what happens in Cougar Nation.”
Throughout the weekend, students will display their enthusiasm for Cougar Nation through a variety of engaging events.
The basketball game against UNCG is the focal point of the Homecoming festivities. The game begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, in the TD Arena. Halftime will feature the traditional crowning of the Homecoming Court. The Spirit Cup, in which teams compete for spirit points will also be awarded; and the team which amasses the most points will receive it.
On Thursday Jan. 31, there will be a pep rally featuring a DJ, free food, performances by the cheerleaders and Cougarettes, and comments from the coaching staff.
The Homecoming concert on Feb. 1 will feature hip-hop artist Travis Porter live at the Music Farm.
A service trip project called “Cougars Taking Action: Take a Bite Out of Hunger” will also take place and students will work at the Lowcountry Food Bank. The Cereal and Oatmeal Food Drive from the Homecoming week will benefit this event. Then the preparations for the game will culminate on campus with Table Decorating and a Tailgate.
Homecoming 2013 characteristically reflects the school’s vivacious capability for change alongside persevering traditions.
