It’s a world-class event that not only spans over a weeks time, but also embeds itself into the majority of what’s considered to be spring semester for College of Charleston students.
The Baker Motor Company Charleston Fashion Week has already kicked off the season with events such as the Emerging Designer “Talented 20” Party held just a few blocks away from the College’s campus on Jan. 19, and it plans to keep building momentum leading up to the actual week that is dedicated to showcasing emerging designers and model talent on the east coast.
“Held March 19-23rd, 2013 under the tents in Marion Square, this five-night celebration will feature more than 35 runway shows, the Emerging Designer Competition: East, the Spring Bridal Show, and the Rock the Runway Model Competition.”
This annual fashion event intertwines with the rich culture of downtown Charleston and the ever-evolving atmosphere of the College’s campus. Students can get involved with Charleston Fashion Week through volunteer positions, internships, attending high-end runway shows, chic after-parties, press events or even becoming an emerging model.
Since its founding in 2007, Charleston Fashion Week has added new flare to the fashion scene in the Lowcountry each year. Last year, Charleston Fashion Week had approximately 7,500 event attendees and over 49 million media impressions. The total economic impact for 2012 was $2.4 million.
Also, in the past, the extravaganza has partnered with charities such as the Center for Women, Lowcountry AIDS Services and MUSC Children’s Hospital.
