The weekend before College of Charleston students headed home for Thanksgiving break, the men and women’s dive team participated in a three day event: the Wingate Fall Frenzy swim meet in Charlotte, NC.
It was a very successful weekend for the both teams, as the men earned a first place finish in the tournament and the women earned second.
The men’s team scored a total of 797 points in the tournament; knocking the second place team, Queen University, out of the water by over 100 points.
The women’s team earned 820 points for the meet, behind first place team, Gardner-Webb University.
Freshman Sarah Graif earned first place as well as broke a school record in the 50-meter freestyle during the second day of the meet with a time of 23.72 seconds. On the final day of the meet, Graif came in first in the 100-meter freestyle event with a time of 51.75 seconds and set another new school record.
The Lady Cougars took first place in the 200-yard free relay during the final day of the meet. The men’s team earned second place for this 200-yard free relay.
Although the teams didn’t earn too many first place positions in the events over the three days, several Cougar teammates placed well in most of the events, which ended up earning them more points than the other teams participating in the Frenzy.
This was the last event both Cougar teams will be swimming in until they return next semester. The teams will be back to compete on January 7th as they travel to Jacksonville, FL to face Old Dominion.
