The College of Charleston men and women’s swimming and diving team traveled to N.C. State to swim against ACC opponent: N.C. State Wolfpack. The women’s competition also included Campbell University.
During the diving events, junior Peter Gibbons finished in 3rd place for the one-meter dive event earning a score of 256.27.
Freshman Pablo Ortiz earned a firstplace finish for the men’s team in the 200-yard IM, and second place in the 200-yard butterfly as well as in the 200-yard backstroke.The Cougars also earned a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The squad for them men’s relay was made up of seniors Matt Sherrier and Brantley Reynolds, junior Eric Craig, and sophomore Greg Karel.
The Lady Cougs also earned a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the squad of freshman Mary Frances Babrowicz, Jayme Groth, Sarah Graif, and sophomore Meredith Smith. Graif finished second in two events, the 100-yard freestyle and the 50-yard freestyle; Groth finished right behind her in third place. Smith also earned a second place finish for the Lady Cougs in the 200-yard freestyle.
As the meet came to an end, both the men and women teams were outscored by N.C. State with a score of 173-100 for the men and 184-91 for the women. However, the women’s team defeated Campbell with a 161-116 finishing score.
Both of the Cougar teams will travel to Charlotte, N.C. this weekend to participate in the Wingate Fall Frenzy. The meet will be held from Friday Nov. 18th to Sunday Nov. 20th. This will be the last time both teams compete until they return from Christmas break.
