The College of Charleston Volleyball team traveled to Clinton, SC Tuesday night for a mid-week match against the Blue Hose of Presbyterian College.
Coming off a rough defeat from the past weekend’s tournament, the Cougars were determined to bring home the victory.
The first set started off shaky for the Cougars but heated up later as both teams battled for the lead. CofC ended the set with a 25-20 win over PC.
Much like the first set, CofC struggled at the start of the second set as they fell behind with a score of 11-4. However, these girls are known to battle back so it was no surprise to have them gain the lead and conquer PC with another win of 25-23.
The third set was a nail-biter as each team was fighting for the lead near the end of the set. PC ended up taking the win of 30-28.
CofC took the lead early in the fourth set. However, PC began to catch up towards the end of the set, keeping the Cougars on their toes. The Cougars were down 24-22 but had the mind-set to make the fourth set the final one. Thanks to multiple attack errors and a service ace by sophomore Kallie McKown, CofC came back for the set victory of 26-24 and an overall match win of 3-1.
Sophomore Madelyn McGinnis played a great match offensively for the Cougars, leading the team in in a total of 17 kills. Keeping the defense strong, junior Emily Shelton had 19 digs and freshman Andi Zbojniewicz had 17.
With a new victory under their belt, the Cougars will have their heads held high as they start the Hampton Inn Invitational at the TD Arena on Friday afternoon. CofC will face off against Texas A&M at 2PM and UNCW at 7PM on Friday Sept. 16th and will return at 12PM Saturday Sept 17th for a match against UNF and another at 7PM against Wyoming.
